Newspaper reports about Diana’s night-course research into the ancient crime organization Scorpia are soon followed by mysterious phone calls and sinister warnings. Before long, Diana is kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to a remote island, where she comes face to face with "The Center," the elusive leader of the organization.

When the Phantom learns that Diana has vanished without a trace, he rushes to the United States to retrace her recent steps. One solid piece of evidence convinces him to treat her presumed 'death' with suspicion: the Phantom Chronicles also hint that the secretive Scorpia may still be active…
