In the first part of this story, the Phantom reads about the medical missionary Dr. Cary, who saved the life of the Phantom's grandfather and received the good mark as protection for himself and his family, plus the dramatic events surrounding the Phantom's marriage to Dr. Carey's sister 75 years ago.

In the second part, Dr. Carey's grand-daughter Lucy Carey visits Bengali to see if her grandfather's story about a masked man was true, but she is soon abducted by two hoodlums seeking a ransom for her safe return. Time for a Phantom to once again stand face to face with a member of the Carey family, with unforeseen consequences...
