A museum expedition is on its way to explore the jungle ruins of Tomas, an ancient pirate city famously run by the unpredictable and mischievous pirate Captain Kidder. However, the expedition's leader Professor Digg is unaware that his assistant Rod has found an old and genuine map detailing where Kidder hid his "last fortune' in the city. Also, in the background lurches Gyp, a member of a gambling racket to which Rod owes a large amount of money.

Informed by the Jungle Patrol of the safari's progress through dangerous jungle land, the Phantom decides to watch proceedings from a distance. Everything is set for a dramatic and surprising finale at the ancient Tomas ruins...
