An ancient cult of moon-worshippers calling itself the Crescent Cult has just been resurrected by a modern adherent, as has the cult's practice of choosing a murder victim every seventh moon. The first victim to be chosen by the revived cult is the next Queen of Bengali, whose coronation is imminent.

The Phantom (as ???Mr. Walker") is amongst the crowd greeting the new Queen the next day and manages to save the first attempt on her life with seconds to spare. He must act equally fast to bring the queen from her palace to a safe haven in the jungle before he can trail the cult members to their remote ruin temple...
