The story:
A middle-aged missionary couple discover an abandoned baby on their doorstep and decide to keep it, but succumb to illness and pass away before they can summon help. After being saved and adopted by the Phantom, the baby (now called Rex King) grows up in the Deep Woods and its surroundings under the tutelage of the Ghost Who Walks.

Rex also gets his first taste of the danger that comes with the territory when ruthless bank robbers take refuge in the jungle to hide their loot and Rex is left to deal with an explosive situation single-handed...
