The story:
A UN team including Diana Palmer has been sent to Bengali to combat a raging jungle epidemic, but despite initial signs of success the team struggles to break through the resistance from the tribes' witchmen, whose influence is rapidly on the wane as new healing methods take hold.

Returning to the Deep Woods from his latest mission (see D082 The Slave Market of Mucar), the Phantom learns that the UN team has been accused of sacrilege after a woman nurse has violated the sacred Wambesi statue of Moogoo. Putting two and two together, the Phantom races against time to save Diana and her colleagues from a gruesome fate in the 'Trial by Fire'...
